What do the world’s richest man, the Mafia, an astrologer, the world’s heavyweight wrestling champion, and the world’s oldest bank robber have in common?
They are all part of the early history of Oceaneering.
This memoir by Mike Hughes recounts his journey from commercial diver to Chairman of Oceaneering International, Inc. and the evolution of that business into the Oceaneering of today. Mike Hughes is a founder of Oceaneering International, Inc.
As a Civil Engineering student at the University of Tennessee, he began his commercial diving career working as a contractor for the Tennessee Valley Authority. Upon graduation he moved to Morgan City, Louisiana and began work in the offshore oilfields of the Gulf of Mexico. The company he founded – World Wide Divers, Inc. – became the first of three companies to merge and form Oceaneering International, Inc.
This memoir is Mike’s account of his progression from a commercial diver to Chairman of the Board of a publicly traded company. Mike has been a Director of Oceaneering from its inception and served as Chairman of the Board from 1969 to 1979 and again from 1984 to 1990.
